As the Amstel House loves the Dutch visitors (and has a Dutch owner…) we have a soft spot for them. We never knew they could cook though… But Dutch actress Mira proves us wrong. She has her own cake company ‘La Dolce Mira‘ and bakes cakes that will give your grandma a run for her money. But she also makes some delicious savoury dishes, something that is proved by the pasta alla Mira recipe below. Her pasta with anchovies is delicious, and above all: easy peasy.
INGREDIENTS (serves 2)
200 gr pasta (preferably one with a short and thick shape, like fusili, but spagghetti will do)
3 salted anchovies + its oil
250 gr of cherry tomatoes Continue reading

Quinoa isn’t a grain, but actually a seed from the Andes, which lacks gluten and is full of antioxidants, proteins and fibres. This salad is a great option after a long day of walking trough the city or any other outdoor activity. Although vegan and gluten free, it is very filling (especially because of the black beans) and nutritious. Therefore it also creates a great base for a good night out or drinks at the Amstel House bar *_* The list of ingredients might scare you a bit, but it is very easy to make as it is a matter of cooking the quinoa and mixing all the ready-to-eat ingredients together.
INGREDIENTS (serves 2)
200 gr quinoa (available in most supermarkets, but in the local organic shop for sure)
small can of black beans
box of cherry tomatoes, cut in half Continue reading

The photos were taken by our colleague and photographer Martin Heiden, who chose five berliners scenarios to illustrate them: the memorial “Kiss” at the Berlin Wall; “The Faces” at the East-Side-Gallery, the Boden Museum with the TV tower as background, the view from the Oberbaumbrücke over the river Spree and the Beer supply of Bar in our neighborhood Moabit.
